In
perusing the ever growing market in domain names and the diminishing amount of
dot.coms that are available, it became apparent that the one thing that had been
largely over looked was the phrase “dot.com” itself. It was so obvious that
a search on domain names with the word dot included in them was a logical
exercise. Surprisingly many were still available. Several other people with the
same idea were easily found on the internet through searches on domain sites.
One of these can be found at Spanish-domain.com. Of course the dot bit is not
just restricted to com, and there are loads of dot.co.uk and dot.net names
available as well as other extensions.

a new angle
There
is a way that substantial revenue can be generated by the leasing of domain
names. If a domain name is registered in an offshore jurisdiction, and its is
owned by an offshore company, that name can be leased quite legitimately to an
individual or business in a non offshore jurisdiction. A royalty payment or
leasing fee is charged to the lessee and normally this would be paid without
withholding tax dependant on the jurisdiction. In many offshore jurisdictions
there is no tax payable on income, in others provided the offshore company is
not owned or controlled by anyone in that jurisdiction such income could also be
tax free.
An
example :
Mr.X
who lives anywhere, forms an offshore company “ABC Limited” in the Bahamas.
“ABC Ltd” registers a number of domain names including casino-dot.com,
aircharter-dot.com, and fishing-dot.com.
These
names are of interest to various companies and individuals, who approach “ABC
Limited” to lease these names and leasing agreements are entered in to.
